On February 2nd, 2002 the New York Times reported something extremely significant regarding steel recovered at the World Trade Center.
The key quotes:
“Perhaps the deepest mystery uncovered in the investigation involves extremely thin bits of steel collected from the trade towers and from 7 World Trade Center, a 47-story high rise that also collapsed for unknown reasons. The steel apparently melted away, but no fire in any of the buildings was believed to be hot enough to melt steel outright.”
So there we have a direct implication that the steel was melted but also a clear statement that fires in any of the World Trade Center Towers that collapsed (1, 2 or 7) were not hot enough to melt steel. Additionally it is accepted as fact that fire from jet fuel and/or office fires do not come close to reaching the melting point of steel
“A preliminary analysis of the steel at Worcester Polytechnic Institute using electron microscopes suggests that sulfur released during the fires — no one knows from where — may have combined with atoms in the steel to form compounds that melt at lower temperatures.”
So then what happened? Sulfur from where? Sulfur combining with the steel causing the steel to melt at lower temperatures?
To my knowledge there was no further direct investigative reporting on this story by the New York Times or any other mainstream media source. The government’s official report on WTC 1, 2 & 7 collapse performed by the National Institute of Standards & Technologies is just that, an official government report. That by the way they have not released the data backing up their research and testing. The NIST report also states that no steel was recovered from World Trade Center 7, so per the New York Times article someone is wrong or lying.
